The Tree of Life represents the different planes of existence as seen from a diagrammatic side-view with the Earth plane at the bottom, the densest and largest, with the spiritual point of consciousness uppermost. In between lie the planes of reasoning, emotion, courage and clarity separated by a thin layer of transformative intention, one from the other.
To understand the progression of the incarnate soul one must follow up the Tree from the bottom to the top. Many lifetimes are spent in the Earth realm. The smaller size of the higher areas represents the more rapid progress of knowledge and understanding as the heart matures, requiring less and less change to reach perfection.
Those in the higher planes may journey to the lower ones in order to help those stuck below but the lower may not reach the higher unless temporarily on a teaching role. All levels interpenetrate and, when viewed from above diagrammatically form the symbol...
